Kementerian Koordinator Bidang Perekonomian Republik Indonesia - Kemenko Perekonomian or commonly abbreviated as EKON is the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs of Republic Indonesia. Kemenko Perekonomian is the Ministry in the Indonesian government with main duties to coordination and synchronization of preparation and policy formulation and implementation in the field of economy. At present, EKON coordinate 15 ministries and other related institutions in the field of economics. Kemenko Perekonomian was first established in 1966 as Kementerian Utama Bidang Ekonomi, Keuangan, dan Industri (EKUIN) or the Primary Ministry of Economics, Finance, and Industry. Kementerian Koordinator Bidang Perekonomian was launched in 2000. In May 2014, business tycoon Chairul Tanjung was appointed by the President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono as the coordinating economic minister replacing Hatta Rajasa.
